Whether you’re in a romantic relationship or not, you could use this Valentine’s day to focus on improving and treating yourself. Try these unconventional ways to spend Valentine’s day and you’ll be feeling the self-love in no time!

Keep a Gratitude Journal

The benefits of keeping a gratitude journal are numerous – from lower stress levels, gaining clarity, to increased levels of gratitude. We often forget about the good things that happen to us in our everyday life. Check us out on Apple Store and Google Play.

Find The Thing That Gets You In The Flow

Have you ever been so utterly focused on one activity that you lost the sense of time, perhaps even a sense of self?

Psychologists call this state Flow, and it boosts our happiness like nothing else. In Flow, you effortly achieve peak performance and are still relaxed and happy once your focus stops.

Define Yourself By Who You Are, Not What You Do

It’s very tempting to define yourself by what you do. You like what you do and it’s part of who you are. But it bears the risk of leaving your self-worth vulnerable to the judgments of other people.

Loving yourself for who you are, but also for what you want to achieve (for yourself) is a more sustainable source of happiness than a need to prove yourself to others with your achievements and activities.

Exercise

The Romans were right when they said “A healthy mind in a healthy body”.

Physical exercise is crucial for your well-being and should not be neglected. Running, for example, combats stress like nothing else and has been shown to be of greater help than medication in the case of light depression.

Working out will give you a sense of accomplishment and immediately boost your confidence and body image – regardless if you are actually making visible progress. Which you will if you are persistent!

Remember That Being Single Has Its Benefits Too

We tend to look up the stairs and see the happy couple. But have you ever been where the other couple is? It’s better to be in no relationship than in a dysfunctional one that robs you of your energy.

Invest In Yourself

Why not use the Valentines Day to improve your skills? Do you have a camera, but only happen to use it when you travel? Now is the right time to sign up for that photography course.

Or perhaps, you would like to improve your professional skills? Websites like Udemy, Coursera, edX offer some fantastic courses for less than $20, and some are even free!

You could also read books, attend seminars, set goals! There are plenty of opportunities. And don’t forget, one of the best investments you can make is in yourself!

Don’t Worry Too Much

There’s so much pressure connected with Valentine’s day. Having a date, organising a date, coming up with something special, feeling bad for not having a date…

Let’s try this. Today should be about spending time with your loved ones.

Is that your partner? Great!
Is that your family? Great!
Is that yourself? Great!

Don’t let the world tell you how you should show your love. It can be the smallest thing if it means something for you. Don’t worry too much about how everyone’s doing their Valentine’s day. Do it your way.
